Temperature rising for the London Marathon
The world's biggest road race gets underway this Sunday, and Met Office forecasters are predicting that it will be one of the hottest days of the year so far. Conditions will favour spectators rather than the runners, with some sunshine and very warm, humid conditions during the race. Highs of 22ºC are expected for the afternoon, with the small chance of a shower.
The Met Office is working closely with the organisers and emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, to ensure they are prepared for the conditions.
Elsewhere in the country temperatures will be well above average, reaching the mid to high teens in many places. Some showers are likely in the west and north.
