Artistic children from a primary school in Bedfordshire have been showing off their creative skills in a special competition organised by leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey South Midlands.

Pupils at Brookmead Primary School in Ivinghoe, near Leighton Buzzard, were given the chance to express what life is like in their community by taking part in drawing and photographic contests.

The winner of the drawing competition, which was open to Key Stage 1 youngsters, was seven-year-old Charlotte Robinson, who scooped £75 worth of gift vouchers for her colourful picture of the sights from her bedroom window.

The Key Stage 2 photographic competition was won by Ethan Smith (8), who earned himself a brand new digital camera worth £100 with his impressive snapshot of Pitstone Windmill.

The prizes, which included gift vouchers for the two runners up in each category, were presented at a special assembly on Friday (April 23) by Taylor Wimpey South Midlands Sales Manager Darren McCormack and Nicki Gibson, Sales Executive at the housebuilder’s Castlemead development in Pitstone.

Darren says: “We were hugely impressed by the standard of every child’s work and it was very difficult indeed to pick the winners, but Charlotte and Ethan thoroughly deserved their prizes for their wonderfully creative entries.”

This is the second time Taylor Wimpey has worked with teachers and pupils at Brookmead in recent months – the housebuilder also visited the school in November 2009 to deliver an assembly on the dangers of playing near building sites, as well as to hand out a gift of high-visibility vests for school excursions.

Darren adds: “Our commitment to investing in communities goes way beyond building high-quality homes, and we are delighted to continue our developing relationship with Brookmead Primary School.”

New three, four and five-bedroom homes are being constructed at Castlemead, in the village of Pitstone, Bedfordshire, with prices ranging from £280,000 to £410,000.

Castlemead Sales Centre is located off Westfield Road, Pitstone, and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm and Mondays from 1.30pm to 5pm.
