Watersports holidays in Sardinia
Sardinia is known for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea - the perfect ingredients for a little windsurfing, sailing or, for the more courageous, flying through the air attached to a kite.
Essential Italy have teamed up with a great group of expert sea-farers who will be happy to teach the rudiments of all three of these exhilarating water sports or help you perfect your style if you are already competent in any of them. Children from the age of 5 may participate so this could be a great experience for the younger members of the family too!
Windsurfing, Kitesurfing , Sailing and Catamaran Courses are all held at Porto Pollo - just a 10 minute drive from Porto Rafael. Courses are available for almost everyone and at every level.
Windsurfing: Prices range from EURO 100 for a 2 day windsurfing course for children to EURO 300 for a five day intensive course. Equipment hire reductions are included in these rates.
Kitesurfing: Prices start at EURO 160 for 3 one-hour lessons.
Sailing: Beginner rates start at EURO 190 for 5 lessons of onehour and 20 minutes. The advanced sailing course may include racing, trapeze, asymmetric spinnaker and high wind sailing.
Essential Italy can arrange a day out on a 13 metre sailing boat which will sail to some of the beautiful islands in the archipelago of La Maddalena where the water is crystal clear - wonderful for swimming and snorkelling - with private use of boat for up to 6 people - a pasta lunch with wine included. Total cost is €650 for the day. All guests are more than welcome to assist in the sailing of the yacht regardless of experience. This offer is valid for June and September only and is dependant on weather conditions. (Usual cost for this would be upwards of 800 Euros)
The Louise Vuitton Trophy - May, 2010
Ten elite sailing teams are set to race for two weeks on the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean Sea off La Maddalena, when the Louis Vuitton Trophy comes to Sardinia in May .
Racing begins on 22 May, the host team, Mascalzone Latino Audi Team, is eager to extend a warm welcome to teams, sponsors, and guests alike. The race village itself is set up about one kilometre to the east of the centre of town, near the southeast corner of Sardinia . The heart of the race village will feature a big screen broadcasting all of the action from the race course. Crews will be in the race village interacting with the crowds for photo sessions, autograph signings, and public press conferences. Food and beverages as well as team merchandise will also available, and the Louis Vuitton Junior Trophy will be contested by local junior sailors.
Essential Italy can offer beautiful accommodation in the pretty village of Porto Rafeal with many properties overlooking the sea towards the island of Maddalena. The ferry runs from the local town of Palau to Maddalena from where you can see these teams set sail.
