A time capsule has been buried at Redrow Homes’ Windsor Park development, in Bracknell, as part of celebrations to mark 100 years of Girlguiding in the UK.

Members of the 4th Easthampstead Brownie Pack were invited to bury their capsule in an area of open space close to the developer’s brand new show homes.

As a result the girls, all aged seven to 10 years, have ticked off one more of the challenges they must complete in a bid to score 100 points and earn a special ‘Adventure 100’ badge.

Tawny Owl Corinne Sartori explains: “The Girlguiding organisation celebrates its 100th birthday on 20-10-2010 but lots of events are taking part in the year leading up to the anniversary. The ‘Adventure 100’ badge encourages members to take part in a wide range of activities from climbing mountains to learning to dance; and from ice skating to making a video.

“Planning a time capsule, deciding what to put in it and arranging for it to be buried is just one of the many things our girls have been doing. We’re very grateful to Redrow Homes for providing us with somewhere to bury our box of mementos and memories.”

Anyone opening the Brownies’ time capsule in the future will have a fascinating insight of life as it’s lived today, as each girl has provided a list of their favourite things, including food, television programmes, toys, popstars and holiday destinations.

They’ve also included a description of the house they live in and who they live there with – which is where the idea to bury the capsule at a housing development arose.

Step forward Redrow Homes, who have been celebrating some ‘history’ of their own.

Mary Timlin, sales director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), says: “We’ve just launched our New Heritage Collection with four fully furnished show homes at Windsor Park. Externally the homes are very traditional looking and have been influenced by the ‘Arts and Crafts’ era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, inside they are bright, modern and fully equipped for 21st century family life.

“Consequently we could think of no better way to commemorate the launch than by helping the Easthampstead Brownies with their time capsule project.”

Redrow’s new homes, currently priced from £229,950 to £489,950, make up part of the wider Jennett’s Park venture two miles west of Bracknell, which includes plans for a 91-acre country park, new primary school, doctor’s surgery and 10 play areas.

For more information about the homes available, visit the Windsor Park sales office off Peacock Lane, Bracknell, open daily from 10am to 5.30pm.
