Laying the bricks for a brighter future

Construction has started of a major new housing regeneration project in Moston and Harpurhey, where developer Redrow is working closely with Manchester City Council.

Local ward members, Councillor Joanne Green, from Harpurhey, and Councillor Henry Cooper, representing Moston, were on hand to help Redrow get building underway for the first of 400 planned homes.

Councillor Cooper, in whose ward the first of six sites to be developed by Redrow falls, commented: “These high quality homes will work well to boost not only Moston but North Manchester overall. It is vital that our local council provides such high quality homes for the residents of Moston, as we are keen to rejuvenate the area and create more of a community atmosphere that will also aid employment.”

Redrow is working with Manchester City Council to enable the homes to be offered to purchasers with the benefit of a 25% equity loan, allowing them to defer a quarter of the cost for 10 years – or until they have more funds available. This means a two-bedroom home will be available from as little as £78,746.

The first phase, Hanson Gardens, in Hugo Street, off Lightbowne Road, Moston, will feature 128 two and three-bedroom traditional looking, spacious homes; and existing residents of Harpurhey and Moston wards will be given priority to purchase when the new properties go on sale in July.

Until then, a marketing suite has opened at the development and offers would-be home owners the chance to register their interest and find out more.

Christine Aitken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “Inside the marketing suite people will find all the information they need to help them choose a new home that suits their needs; to confirm their eligibility for priority purchase and to find out how the shared equity scheme can help make their new home even more affordable.

“We’re already experiencing very high levels of interest and would recommend people to get in touch as soon as they can – especially as the ‘exclusive’ period at Hanson Gardens for local residents will only last for two weeks after we open the show homes and launch sales.”

Visitors to the marketing suite can see illustrations of the homes being built and samples of fixtures and fittings. There are also details of some of the many improvements that have been made to local schools, shops, parks and other services as part of the City Council’s wide-scale regeneration programme for the area.

Councillor Joanne Green commented: “We are delighted to be working with Redrow to provide quality housing as part of our wider regeneration of the area. We are particularly pleased that the priority will go to local residents with a scheme that will give them an extra boost on the property ladder.”

To find out more, visit the Redrow marketing suite at Hanson Gardens, in Hugo Street, open Thursday to Monday inclusive, 10am to 5.30pm.
