Roadpilot helps fans avoid further costs during World Cup

Football fans travelling to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup this summer are being urged to take one vital item of kit with them – their mobile phones, so that they can pinpoint the country’s more than 500 fixed speed camera locations.

In time for the world’s biggest sporting event, British firm RoadPilot has completed a GPS survey of South Africa’s road network.  The newly-updated database is available to consumers around the globe via RoadPilot Mobile – the company’s own application for GPS-enabled Nokia phones – or through a ‘combined speed camera and traffic alert’ application for Nokia Maps 3.0.

With match venues separated by hundreds of miles, it is expected that many fans will hire cars to travel between games.  Motorists driving on unfamiliar roads in a foreign country may find it all too easy to creep over the speed limit, running the risk of incurring fines or, in severe cases, having their vehicle impounded.

“There will be thousands of soccer fans descending on South Africa over the coming weeks, and keeping on the right side of the law will clearly be a key concern for many visitors,” comments James Flynn OBE, CEO of RoadPilot.  “These latest additions to our database mean that those lucky enough to have tickets to the matches can enjoy the spirit of the beautiful game without the worry of incurring extra costs, just by taking their phone with them when travelling.”

Spanning 26 countries around the world, RoadPilot’s Omni database is endorsed through licensing agreements with some of the world’s leading organisations in the personal navigation, online mapping, routing and printed map sectors.

It is available to consumers principally via RoadPilot Mobile – the firm’s self-built speed camera location application for GPS Smart phones – or through a ‘combined speed camera and traffic alert’ application for Nokia Maps 3.0.
