Foreign exchange specialist Travelex has developed a special WAG application for Cash Passport, its prepaid currency card.

The cards have been developed specifically for WAGs working in South Africa this month.  They give the girls security, control over their spending as well as the latest bling wallet accessory.

The ‘WAG card' development has seen Travelex adapt its standard prepaid card to suit the needs of the professional footballer's partner. The basic Cash Passport can be loaded with £5,000 but Travelex has extended the limit of this new card to £30,000.

Ana Ansell, Travelex, commented: "In creating this new card we needed to offer the same benefits of a traditional prepaid card - security, cost control and ease of use - only we're dealing with a different kind of client that has a slightly bigger budget. The cards can be used for buying things or cash withdrawals so the girls can use them virtually anywhere - the difference of course is that they can keep some control.  These ladies face the same challenges as the rest of us, everyone's had to tighten their belts, even if that belt happens to be Chanel there's still no need to blow the budget."

The team fly out to South Africa on June 2nd and, if successful, will return to England after the final on July 11th.

In Germany 2006, 22 WAGs spent £1 million over the course of the tournament over £45k per WAG.  Given the need for more prudent spending in light of the global recession, a WAG budget of £30k each ensures the girls can fulfil their engagements and return home without breaking the bank.

According to reports in 2006 the WAGs ran up a hotel bill of more than $512,000 and shortly after arriving in the small spa town of Baden Baden on June 9th, had spent nearly £500,000 on luxury extras including beauty treatments, restaurant dining, clothes, make-up, laundry and alcohol. Six of the gang apparently spent £57,000 during a one-hour weekend shopping trip.

Football's first lady, Victoria Beckham, is unlikely to feature in the WAG line-up due to David Beckham's achilles injury which has ruled him out of selection. However, Coleen Rooney, Alex Curran and Carly Cole, all veterans of the 2006 World Cup, are all reporting to be booking official professional engagements in order to maneuver their way around Fabio's ‘No WAGs' rule.

WAG and former fitness trainer, Carly Cole (previously Zuker) comments: "Normally I'm only limited by how many shopping bags I can carry. This time around the limit is on the card."

A short survey has been posted on the Rands for Fans website set up by Travelex for anyone who may like to try their luck and see if they are WAG enough.  Designed to distinguish WAGS from WAGabees, the survey includes questions about mansions and handbags.  Visit randsforfans.com/uk/randsforfans/default.aspx to try it out.
