Taylor Wimpey helps kids go green in Leighton Buzzard

School children in Leighton Buzzard are looking forward to eating up all their greens – thanks to Taylor Wimpey, the leading housebuilder behind the Heath Meadows development of houses for sale in Leighton Buzzard.

Pupils at St George’s Lower School are getting ready to reap the rewards of their new garden club which was set up after Taylor Wimpey transformed a large area of the school grounds for growing plants, flowers and vegetables.

Dave Crowley, a landscape gardener for the housebuilder which is currently constructing a selection of homes in Leighton Buzzard at Heath Meadows, put in a huge amount of time and effort to build a raised flower and herb bed out of railway sleepers, stock it with plants, and install an attractive fence to make the area safe for the children.

School manager Irene Savage says: “We cannot thank Taylor Wimpey, and especially Dave, enough. He has turned an under-used area that had poor soil full of debris into a beautiful plot which is now the focal point of our school grounds.

“As a result we have set up a garden club whose members stay behind on a Tuesday after school to look after the area.

“They are so excited to see what grows and they are looking forward to eating the vegetables they have planted!”

Irene added: “It gives them crucial experience of gardening which they wouldn’t necessarily be able to get at home.

“Whole classes are using the garden as part of their lessons. For example, the pupils’ science lessons can now include studying how beans grow and develop.

“All age groups use the garden, from four to nine year olds.”

Taylor Wimpey’s Heath Meadows development of brand new houses in Leighton Buzzard is less than half a mile from St George’s Lower School.

The collection of three and four-bedroom homes is located off Churchill Road, and is open Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5.30pm and Monday 10am to 2pm.
