Volvo service wins the day

It’s an old adage that the sales department sells the first truck and the service back-up put any following vehicles in. It’s never been truer than for Day Aggregates, the south-east’s leading construction material producer and subsidiary of Brentford-based Day Group.
Operating over 100 tipper trucks from their various depots, more than half of them are Volvo 8x4s supplied by MC Truck and Bus in Maidstone, with a few Volvo FM artics for good measure.
Chris Cooling, Transport Operations Manager at Day Aggregates says, “Throughout our business we operate over 50 Volvo trucks at all weight ranges. The service and support from the MC Group is unrivalled by other manufacturers and they are able to adapt to our ever-changing requirements with ease often providing vehicles at short notice.”
Day Aggregates have just put two new Volvo FM13-460 8x4 chassis into their Crawley depot. As Chris Cooling explained, “I needed these two in a hurry so I took them from stock. My standard choice is usually 400hp and the I-Shift gearbox, but this pair are 460 manuals and they will be fine.” Chris has taken 25 I-Shift-equipped chassis in the last 18 months and he is a fan. “I’ve been buying Volvo’s automated boxes for seven years now. I don’t waste money on clutches and it has given me uniformity on fuel across the fleet and reliability.”
Average fuel consumption from their Volvos is just under 7mpg, and Chris Cooling is happy. “Moving aggregates in a dense urban environment is heavy work with traffic delays the norm. It’s a tough job and the Volvos are more than up to the task.”
