At this year’s Blackpool Dog Show, which runs from 25th – 27th June, Petplan the UK’s favourite pet insurance provider is making the show more accessible to dog lovers in North West region.

They have produced special booklets for newcomers to help explain the basics of dog showing, the judging rules, who is involved and how to take part. Additionally, expert guides will be available at the venue to help explain the show to members of the public and answer any questions.

Stephanie Benton, Chairman of Blackpool Championship Dog Show, who will be an official Petplan guide at the show says, “I hope the new initiatives by Petplan will encourage more of the general public to come to the show, not only as a spectator but also to participate.

“To be a guide is a great honour. I like that as a guide, I am able to introduce newcomers to the world of dog showing and the new activity that Petplan have brought to this year’s show presents a great opportunity for the general public to participate and observe a world they have never experienced before.”

Alison Andrew, Petplan Marketing Manager says, “Dog shows are great events but often the wider public do not feel comfortable attending them because they don’t understand the judging criteria or what the points system means. That’s why we’ve decided to provide the expert guides and produce the special booklet so that every dog lover in the region can enjoy the show.”

As the only UK championship show to be featured in the New York Times, and with over 50 trade stands on display, Blackpool has become known as one of the most popular Championship shows on the UK circuit. Held in the summer in a popular holiday area, it always has a large public attendance and is well known as a local attraction, enjoying great support from the local council. It will also give visitors a chance to experience great cuisine at numerous food stalls and enjoy drinks at the licensed bar as well as plenty of car parking facilities.

The last remaining Petplan Junior stakes qualifier will take place at the City of Birmingham with the final being held in Manchester in 2011.
