Premier recycling and waste management specialist for London and the south-east, Bywaters (Leyton) Ltd, have taken their first Volvo RCV truck which has been put to work in Central and East London.

Operating over 20 RCV chassis on trade waste collections in London, Bywaters’ Fleet Logistics Manager, Andy Crockett explained, “Much of our work is done in very restricted access locations like the City of London, so genuine low-entry cabs with their long front overhangs can be a problem and lead to damage on high kerbs and the like. We were looking for a cab that was between the low entry style and a regular haulage cab.”

The Volvo FE 6x2 with rear-steer and an Allison World Series automatic gearbox is fitted with an Incomol RCV body and it has been supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London’s Enfield Dealerpoint, who were delighted to get this conquest deal in the face of strong competition.

Andy Crockett said that apart from the ride height, the cab was a deciding factor. “It came down to Volvo or Scania, but in the end we considered the compactness of the FE coupled with the interior space was a better option for our drivers and refuse collection teams. The fact that the Volvo FE came at a very competitive price was an added bonus,” he said.
