Holidaymakers urged to order US dollars in advance

13th July 2010 Print

New York features in the top 10 list of destinations to visit this year, according to the recent Summer Trends 2010 report from Skyscanner.

As UK holidaymakers strive to make their foreign currency go further, Post Office Travel Money advises travellers to pre-order dollars before they get to the airport as this could give them a better foreign exchange rate on their foreign currency.

Getting travel money sorted in advance will help holidaymakers prepare for expenditure when in the Big Apple, particularly given sterling’s current poor foreign currency exchange performance against the dollar.

The Post Office further advises travellers that they could get a better deal on their foreign currency by pre-arranging their travel money, rather than waiting to buy it at the airport, and avoiding the stress of trying to find a cashpoint to take out foreign currency after they arrive. Airport bureaux de change and overseas ATMs typically charge higher foreign currency exchange rates as well as additional commission fees.

Meanwhile the Post Office Travel Money City Costs Barometer report has revealed New York to be the most expensive city break destination, with a cup of coffee costing £2.48, a bottle of lager setting visitors back £4.95 and one night’s accommodation for two people in a three-star hotel coming in at £147.
