InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will this month open the InterContinental New York Times Square, the largest hotel to open in Manhattan since 2002.

Located on 8th Avenue and 44th Street, just west of Times Square, InterContinental New York Times Square is in the heart of Broadway within walking distance of 40 theatres and close to the fashion district. The hotel is also conveniently located near all of New York’s airports and close to Penn and Grand Central stations making it ideal for both business and leisure travellers.

Designed by global architecture firm Gensler and wrapped with floor-to-ceiling windows, the 36-storey InterContinental New York Times Square has 607 guestrooms, each averaging 350 square foot. It features 25 Panoramic Avenue Suites and the lavish 2,700 square foot duplex presidential suite which has three bedrooms, a two-storey living space with a fireplace in the master bedroom and sliding glass doors leading onto a private bathroom with a freestanding tub.

The hotel offers guests unrivalled views over Times Square, Broadway, the Hudson River and the New York City skyline from almost all the hotel’s giant windows.

With interior design from Jeffery Beers International, the hotel’s style combines classic New York art deco with contemporary style, providing a refreshing sanctuary from the bustling streets of Manhattan.

The hotel boasts Ça Va, a new French brassiere from chef Todd English, as well as Ça Va Marché, a café serving breakfast and lunch with light dishes such as quiches, soups and salads. Ça Va’s private dining room, seating up to 56 diners, can be divided into three sections for smaller groups.

The hotel has a courtyard garden in the lobby with a pool and features 25 flexible suites that can be used as event space, the 4,000 square foot Gotham Ballroom and 10 meeting rooms located on a dedicated meeting floor offering more than 10,000 square foot.

All bedrooms feature a 42-inch flat panel HDTV, a work area with a touch screen computer so guests don’t need to bring their laptop with them, free Wi-Fi and an extra large spa-inspired bathroom with a walk-in rain shower.

Guests can make the most of the area through the renowned InterContinental concierge service, which connects guests to a destination’s best kept secrets. The concierge is on hand to share some of New York’s best kept secrets to ensure that visitors get a truly New York experience.

Simon Scoot, vice president, global brand management, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, said: “This is the largest new build hotel in New York to open since 2002. Like many of our InterContinental hotels around the world, in cities such as London, Paris, Hong Kong and Sydney, the InterContinental New York Times Square is perfectly placed to give guests great access to some of the best known restaurants, landmarks and shopping areas. Our guests will get the ‘in the know’ experience that InterContinental is known for through our industry-leading global concierge programme.”

The InterContinental New York Times Square is one of the most environmentally responsible hotels in New York City and will be the largest new-build hotel in New York to achieve LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Counsel (USGBC).

Drew Schlesinger, general manager, InterContinental New York Times Square, said: “We’re confident that our location in the heart of midtown along with the InterContinental brand will attract guests from all over the world. The hotel has so much to offer from its design features and the stunning views of the city to our restaurant, Ça Va, run by Todd English.”

This is the latest addition to the InterContinental portfolio. In October last year, IHG signed a new InterContinental property in London, InterContinental London Westminster, which is scheduled to open in Spring 2011. There are 166 InterContinental hotels globally and a further 64 in the pipeline, 60 per cent of which are already under construction.

InterContinental is the world’s first hotel brand to provide destination specific concierge websites and videos. The hotel brand also offers Insider Experiences, a collection of concierge-inspired packages that help guests discover a destination’s best kept secrets.
