Turbo Dynamics introduces new Honeywell technology to its customers
Authorised Garrett Turbo Specialist, Turbo Dynamics, continues to hold its position at the forefront of the market by adding the latest turbo fault test equipment to its proffered services.
Its worldwide customer base will benefit from the recently purchased portable machine, which is capable of testing vehicles which are equipped with SREA (Simple Rotary Electronic Actuator) and Intelligent REA (Rotary Electronic Actuator) Garrett VNT turbochargers and others with electronic actuators. Furthermore, on the more complex REA actuators it can cope with both PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and CAN (Controller Area Network) versions.
The sophisticated device checks both mechanical and electrical functions of the turbo charger’s actuator which can be tested with VNT mechanism connected or disconnected. This checks function of VNT mechanism for free movement, restricted movement or complete lock-up; thereby confirming if any problem lies within the actuator or the VNT mechanism.
The HandyCAN 3, by Honeywell, is a dedicated diagnostic tool that will help Turbo Dynamics quickly and accurately diagnose suspected faults in Garrett turbochargers equipped with electronic actuators. This revolutionary piece of equipment will show whether reported faults lie with the actuator, the VNT mechanism or the vehicle that the turbo is fitted to.
The production of this machine resulted from Honeywell’s studies into on-vehicle diagnosis of “suspected actuator faults” on certain applications, where they discovered an astonishing 40% to 50% of faults were misdiagnosed.
The release of this testing equipment comes at a time when the market is saturated with a large and growing number of misdiagnosed “turbo faults” which the unscrupulous and unauthorised turbo repairers are capitalising on. It gives Turbo Dynamics a technical advantage over its competitors and further reinforces customers’ trust in the company.
The HandyCAN3 follows on from the HandyCAN 1 and 2, which are exclusively used by Honeywell Product Quality and Reliability teams as well as OEM customer teams. The Honeywell e-actuator team have designed the HandyCAN3 exclusively for its Authorised Dealer Network.
By efficiently testing whether the fault is with the actuator VNT mechanism or vehicle, TD’s customers will receive the correct REA diagnosis each and every time. They will have the peace of mind that the results are backed up, be given the opportunity of having the fault tested whilst the turbo is still fitted to their vehicle and enjoy the possibility of savings money by not have to replace their turbocharger.
This tool compliments TD’s already stringent inspection and testing procedures.
Turbo Dynamics has also recently added a new Warranty Area to its premises. This development follows the company’s recent expansion; acquisition of new premises and staff to cope with a demand in workload.
