Renault-Nissan Alliance on a charge
The Renault-Nissan Alliance continued its relentless electric vehicle charge last night at the third What Car? Green Awards, receiving the special Editor’s Award for its pioneering role in offering practical and fun electric cars.
Renault-Nissan Alliance – introducing desirable electric vehicles
The Alliance’s drive to offer zero-emission motoring is about to begin in the shape of the new Nissan Leaf, a 5-seat full electric family car launching in key markets around the world later this year. Renault’s Z.E. (Zero Emission) family of four electric vehicles follow soon after, with a compact van and city car arriving in 2011, followed by a supermini and family saloon in 2012.
“The electric car has come of age – and that’s down to the Renault-Nissan Alliance,” says Editor-in-chief, Steve Fowler. “While other manufacturers are still making plans and running trials, Renault and Nissan have beaten them to the punch with proper electric cars you’ll actually be able to buy and run by this time next year. You’ll want one, too.
“Cars such as the Nissan Leaf and Renault Fluence will change people’s perceptions of electric motoring for good. The memories of small, oddball vehicles with limited space, range and safety will be history…the Renault-Nissan Alliance has made electric cars real, affordable and fun.”
Collecting the award on the evening on behalf of the Alliance, Nissan’s Jerry Hardcastle, Vice President, Vehicle Design and Development, acknowledged the efforts the company’s engineers and technicians are currently putting into developing electric vehicle technology, as well as asking for everyone to challenge their perceptions of electric vehicles and embrace the need for change.
“I’m delighted to receive the award on behalf of the Renault-Nissan Alliance and hope this is just the first of many for our electric vehicles over the next few years. I would like to dedicate this latest trophy to the sterling work being done by our 2,000 Alliance employees worldwide in developing and launching both brands’ range of electric vehicles.”
