Winning Site Managers

Fourteen Redrow site managers have been honoured by industry professionals for quality craftsmanship around the UK.

They have all scooped Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ awards from the National House-Building Council (NHBC) for the high standards achieved on their respective sites.

The awards put Redrow’s record number of winners in the top 400 of site managers from 18,000 around the UK.

They will all now have to wait until later in the year to see if they have picked up ‘Seal of Excellence’ awards, which are only given to the top 100 ‘Quality’ winners.

Redrow’s group managing director John Tutte said: “We’re exceptionally proud of our winning site managers. The quality standards our site managers and their teams achieve on site are fundamental in delivering high standards of customer satisfaction.”

Redrow’s winning site managers are:

1. Matt Knight, at Priory Fields, Church Gresley, South Derbyshire.
2. Shaun Johnson, at Saxon Court, Sherburn in Elmet, North Yorkshire.
3. Shaun Phoenix, at Cressington Heath, South Liverpool.
4. Tony Gordon, at Woodlands Grange, Bromborough, Wirral.
5. Robert Dalgleish, at Sylvan Brae, Inverkip, Inverclyde.
6. Fred Muller, at Sutton Woods, Maidstone, Kent.
7. Justin Eccles, at The Lakes, Heybridge, near Maldon, Essex.
8. Paul Deacon, at Cannon’s Wharf, Tonbridge, Kent.
9. Ken Greenaway, at Tiddybrook Meadows, Tavistock, Devon.
10. Barrie Jones, at Awel-y-Mor, Birchgrove, near Swansea.
11. Syd James, at Sirhowy Gardens, Oakdale, Caerphilly.
12. Mike Knight, at Cae Rebeca, Pontarddulais, near Swansea.
13. Mark Symonds, at Croesonnen Court, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
14. Gareth Griffiths, at Three Oaks, Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taff.

The winners have come from a variety of backgrounds. Some have brought previous experience with them from other leading housebuilders or commercial construction companies and others have come through Redrow’s assistant site managers’ training scheme, which trains new recruits every year in all aspects of the job.

One award-winning site manager who came through the in-house training scheme is Syd James, based at Sirhowy Gardens, in Oakdale, near Caerphilly.

Syd, 38, who has worked for Redrow for five years, was promoted to the role of site manager in 2007. This is his third ‘Quality’ award, and on each previous occasion he has gone a step further and picked up the ‘Seal of Excellence’.

He said: “I was delighted to win this award and I’m keeping my fingers crossed to pick up a ‘Seal of Excellence’ again this year. I enjoy building new homes because of the satisfaction you get from taking a plot from nothing to a finished house and making the person that buys that property proud and very happy.”

His colleague at Three Oaks, in Aberdare, Gareth Griffiths, 41, also came through the assistant site managers’ training scheme. Gareth added: “These awards are testament to the success of the Redrow’s training programme and the investment it makes in new site managers.”

The NHBC is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the awards - the industry's only competition that rewards and recognises the work of site managers.

Developments across the country are subject to 18 months of rigorous judging, including spot checks of the day-to-day running of the site. Each site manager is assessed across 38 areas of management including their technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and leadership and organisational skills.
