Bristol site manager wins quality award

Simon Foy, site manager for Great Western Dockyard (GWD), situated next to the ss Great Britain (ssGB) in Bristol’s floating harbour, has been awarded a coveted ‘Pride in the Job 2010 – Quality Award’. Selected from more than 18,000 site managers across the UK, Simon was chosen to win just one of 400 Quality Awards.
Recognised as the Oscars of the house-building industry, Pride in the Job’s (PIJ) role is unique, as it is the only competition to focus on the site manager’s contribution in producing high quality new homes. The commitment to win a Pride in the Job Award is immense and involves being assessed across 38 areas of site management.
Simon comments on his win: “It means a lot to us as a whole team to have won this award. To be put forward by the NHBC and to then get through the long evaluation process to come out tops is a great feeling. I’m extremely proud that the site’s achieved it and it makes the past few years being site manager at GWD all the more worthwhile.”
NHBC inspectors have been visiting and assessing sites throughout the UK since last July and only site managers who demonstrate exceptional standards in every aspect of their work on site and the homes they build are considered for a PIJ Award.
Nigel Palmer, managing director for Linden Homes Western said: “We’re delighted with the whole construction team at GWD but especially so with Simon, it is always fantastic to receive external recognition for our efforts and achievements and this is no exception.”
Simon will be attending the celebration lunch at Weston-super-Mare in October where the announcement will also be made as to who the winners of the Seal of Excellence certificate are.
The Works, the first phase of the prestigious GWD scheme, is located next to the ssGB and is a major regeneration project that marks a new chapter in the story of Bristol’s floating dockyard.
It features a collection of 1 and 2 bedroom new apartments in Bristol that are quickly becoming the most sought after address in the city. Built in conjunction with the ssGB Trust and incorporating the Trust’s new visitor centre, the development is built on the footprint of Brunel’s original steam works and will echo the buildings that were lost in the Second World War.
