Golf and whisky galore in Piccadilly

Golf and whisky have always enjoyed a close association, with many of Scotland’s finest distilleries located within a sand wedge of some of the best links courses in the world.
And there can’t be many golfers who haven’t ventured out for a winter round at some time in their life without a hipflask filled with a single malt to help stave off the morning chill.
In honour of these twin pleasures, The Athenaeum Hotel in London is offering guests the opportunity to experience both, following the launch of a unique ‘Golf & Whisky’ programme.
Guests who book a minimum of three nights at the luxurious five-star hotel located in the heart of Piccadilly, will be treated to a complimentary tutored whisky tasting by the hotel’s in-house whisky sommelier, and then will be whisked away at their convenience to The Athenaeum’s sister hotel, The Grove in Chandler’s Cross, to enjoy nine holes on the Kyle Phillips-designed championship course, where Tiger Woods won the Amex World Golf Championship in 2006.
Overlooking Green Park, The Athenaeum is a breath of fresh air in the heart of the capital, with 111 lavishly decorated rooms, 46 spacious suites and 34 private apartments to choose from. With deeply comfortable Hypnos beds, plasma-screen television systems, luxurious fabrics, and original contemporary artworks, each room provides a home-from-home during any stay in London. The hotel’s elegant restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and an award-winning afternoon tea is served in the Garden Room.
The Whisky Bar is a destination in its own right, boasting over 270 rare whiskies from the finest single malts to the most rare from mothballed distilleries. To accompany the many whiskies on offer the sommelier, who is one of only two in London, will guide visitors through the Athenaeum’s food-pairing menus of both sweet and savoury bites created to enhance the flavours of each malt. Whisky Tastings can be held either in the whisky bar or in the comfort of guests’ own rooms.
The three-night package costs £320 per night and includes accommodation and breakfast at The Athenaeum, a Whisky Tasting session, free transfer to The Grove and nine holes of golf. To make your booking, visit: athenaeumhotel.com
