Classic car owners don’t care for modern comforts

10th August 2010 Print

Research shows that modern car comforts such as sat nav, air-conditioning and heating are not important to classic vehicle owners.

A survey, by specialist insurance broker Footman James, found that over a third of the classic owners surveyed would not miss any of the comforts associated with driving a modern car when they switch over to their pride and joy but did have concerns about their classic’s reliability.

Whilst 17 per cent missed power steering; heating, air conditioning, sat nav and the other comforts associated with driving a modern car were not seen as important, with less than ten per cent making reference to such features.

Yet, almost 20 per cent of those surveyed stated that they did miss the reliability of a modern car when driving their classic.

The survey, of nearly 4,500 classic vehicle owners, was conducted via a database web survey and also at the NEC’s Classic Motor Show.

Paul Matthews, Footman James’ managing director, said: “Classic vehicle owners are happy to sacrifice their modern comforts to drive their classic but are clearly still concerned about the reliability of their pride and joy.

“Making sure their vehicle is properly insured, in the event of a breakdown or accident, will set classics owners minds at rest, resulting in more time to enjoy the journey and less time worrying about whether they will get back or not!”
