Kendal Festival of Food to make a tasty return

Local food producers, farmers, restaurants, cafés and other food businesses are already circling dates between October 22 and 29 in their diaries as they plan their participation in this year’s Kendal Festival of Food.
The inaugural Festival of Food took place in October 2009 and proved such a success for organisers Kendal Futures and South Lakeland District Council that it has now become a regular calendar event with the help of Bluestone Events.
This year’s Festival will once again showcase the excellent local and artisan produce available in and around Kendal and attract people from all over Cumbria and beyond to the ancient market town.
As in 2009, the Festival will take place in various locations, mostly at the premises of participants, but also in public areas such as Kendal’s market square. Businesses taking part can decide exactly what they wish to do to give their produce or dishes profile. Last year, the activities ranged from hands-on sausage making sessions to talks and demonstrations and from price offers to children’s kitchen capers.
Food sampling is the essence of Kendal Festival of Food and with fantastic tasting local fish, game, organic vegetables, home-reared meat and artisan cheeses on offer, the public find it hard to resist a culinary voyage through different taste sensations.
Businesses already signed up for this year’s event include the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, Lindeth Howe hotel and restaurant, the Hawkshead Brewery, the Staff of Life bakery and Jintana Thai restaurant.
The events programme is this year being managed by Bluestone Events, who are seeing application forms arriving thick and fast, from all sorts of businesses.
“Some innovative ideas of how to interact with the public and make food sampling interesting are already coming in”, says Kate Thomas of Bluestone Events. “We have also had messages of support from key individuals in the local area, including MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Farron and Lake District National Park Chief Executive, Richard Leafe.
