Gap-year travel

It’s A-level results time again and thoughts are turning to gap-year travels. With round-the-world tickets starting from as little as £999, a gap-year abroad is not only the perfect opportunity for students to kick-back after months of cramming, it can also provide grown-up gappers with a well deserved break from the daily grind.

Travelmood, which specialises in flight-only tickets and tailor-made long-haul holidays, has launched a “Gappers’ Guide to Round-the-World Travel” to help gap-year travellers on their way.

BUDGET ROUND-THE-WORLD
Travelmood is advising gappers that the cheapest way to fly around the world is with Air New Zealand. Travellers can fly from the UK to Hong Kong, Auckland, Sydney, Los Angeles and back to the UK from just £999 per person.

Gappers can swap Sydney for Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns, Christchurch, or Wellington at no extra cost and those seeking a little extra comfort can upgrade from economy to premium economy, one-way, from just £579 per person.

ROUND-THE-WORLD WALKABOUT FARES
According to Travelmood, the advantage of booking a “Walkabout” round-the-world ticket with Australian carrier, Qantas is that gappers can add internal flights between Australia’s cities from as little as £49 one-way, making it possible to experience all that Australia has to offer, quickly and cheaply.

Qantas’ “Walkabout” fares offer magnificent choice when it comes to stopover destinations en route to Australia. Far East stopover options on the way out include Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan and on the return, travellers can choose to visit Buenos Aires in South America or Fiji in the Pacific, before heading back to the UK via the USA where options include Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.

1. Africa Walkabout: Africa - Australia - USA
Travelmood is offering a “Walkabout” fare with Qantas from the UK to Johannesburg and then on to Sydney, returning from Brisbane to the UK via Los Angeles from £1,039 per person. Travellers can choose to make their own way from Sydney to Brisbane by land or take advantage of the Qantas “air pass” and fly from just £49, one-way. Gappers can fly in and out of the Australian “gateway” city of their choice, swapping Sydney for Perth and Brisbane for Melbourne, for example.

2. Far East Walkabout: Far East – Australia - New Zealand - USA
For travellers who want to visit the Far East on their way “Down Under” Travelmood has a UK to Singapore, Singapore to Perth, Sydney to Auckland, Auckland to New York and New York to UK ”Walkabout” ticket with Qantas from £1,219 per person. Again, gappers can travel by land from Perth to Sydney on this itinerary or book a Qantas “air pass” from £109 one-way and they can choose to fly in and out of any “gateway” city in Australia.

3. World Walkabout: Far East – Australia - New Zealand – Pacific - USA
For maximum flexibility, Travelmood is offering a Qantas round-the-world ticket which allows stops in seven destinations from £1,499 per person. An example route is UK to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Sydney and Christchurch and then Auckland to Fiji, New York and back to the UK.

STAR ALLIANCE ROUND-THE-WORLD
For a more complex itinerary, Travelmood advises customers to book with Star Alliance. There are 28 airlines within the alliance which makes for a varied range of round-the-world travel options and allows gappers to go almost anywhere in the world. An example itinerary is London, Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to London with prices starting from £2,499 per person.

As a tailor-made specialist, Travelmood can also book accommodation in all destinations named above, as well as extras such as car-hire, visas, transfers and excursions.
