British Gas and Ovo's cheapest online energy deals
Today British Gas has withdrawn Websaver 8, which with an average cost of £899 was one of the cheapest online deals in the market. The tariff will be replaced by Websaver 9 which is £80 more expensive at £979. Meanwhile, from tomorrow Ovo Energy will also raise the price of their fixed price online tariff. However, Ovo Energy's New Energy Fixed will remain the best option for those looking for a cheap fixed deal.
Thomas Lyon, energy expert at uSwitch.com, comments: "British Gas and Ovo are the latest in a long line of providers to raise the cost of their cheapest deals - consistent with recent upward trends in online tariffs. These price rises don't mean imminent rises to standard tariffs but they do mean consumers should act sooner rather than later to make sure they are paying as little as possible for their energy. Importantly, online energy plans currently cost over £250 a year less than suppliers' standard plans, offering households a real opportunity to take their energy bills back to pre-2008 levels."
