Remembering Hendrix in Seattle

6th September 2010 Print

It is 40 years since Seattle legend Jimi Hendrix passed away and fans can visit the city to pay their respects to the rock and roll icon.

Hendrix passed away on September, 18, 1970, and was laid to rest just outside of Seattle at the Greenwood Memorial in Renton.

There is a memorial to the star and his headstone contains a depiction of a Fender Stratocaster guitar, the instrument he was most famed for using.

A permanent exhibition to Hendrix’s work can be found at the Experience Music Project (EMP), which features 8,000 artefacts including original artwork, clothing and guitars.

Seattle is renowned for its rich musical heritage and the city was also home to Kurt Cobain, Pearl Jam and Quincy Jones.

Located in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is just a nine hour flight from the UK.  The iconic Space Needle and Pike Place Market are just a few reasons to visit this relaxed city that is surrounded by water and snow-capped mountains.
