Five star facilities at Rowallan Castle Golf Club

The stunning Rowallan Castle Golf Club at Kilmaurs, Scotland, designed by Colin Montgomerie, is now open for full play and is attracting members worldwide thanks to its exceptional five-star facilities.
 
Once all its plans for a clubhouse, hotel and spa are in place, it plans to employ 175 people. Currently it has 30 staff, says Managing Director Niall Campbell.
 
Eight-times European No 1 golfer and 2010 Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie has chosen one of the finest locations in the heart of picturesque Ayrshire to design his first course in the UK.
 
Rowallan features Colin’s trademark pot bunkers, tricky undulating greens and a layout that requires careful course management to score well.
 
As well as golfers from Ayrshire and beyond joining to take advantage of its first-class facilities, it's attracting members and visitors from as far afield as the USA and Scandinavia.
 
Last week, some fifty ladies from Troon Golf Club visited to play the eighteen holes, with a number saying it was "a masterpiece".
 
Set in six hundred acres of one of Scotland’s most glorious country estates, it boasts two of the finest castles in the land.
 
As befits a top championship course, it utilises the latest technology. Glasgow-based AV specialists WS Steele have installed a state of the art AV, CCTV and alarm system, the first of its type in the UK.
 
The original Rowallan Castle dates back to the thirteenth century, the era of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. The estate was birthplace of Elizabeth Muir, mother of Robert II, the first Stewart King of Scotland. The Rowallan Estate was laid out in its existing form by Mungo Mure in 1513 and was home to the Campbells of Loudoun from 1690 until the late nineteenth century, when the "new" Rowallan Castle was added to the estate.
 
The estate was bought by Niall Campbell twenty years ago – Niall's ancestors were the Campbells of Loudoun - and he started the planning process to develop the potential of the Rowallan Castle estate and restore the original castle.
 
He said: “Stretching to 7000 yards from the Championship tees, Rowallan is a modern classic, complementing Ayrshire’s existing golfing gems - from Prestwick, the birthplace of the Open, to Royal Troon and Turnberry, the 2009 Open Championship venue. New members are joining daily and the momentum is quickly building."
