Seneca Rocks
Rising approximately nine hundred feet above the North Fork River, Seneca Rocks is one of the state's best-known and most-photographed attractions. A rock climber's paradise formed from Tuscarora quartzite, this attraction can be reached from hundreds of mapped routes with various degrees of difficulty. For those wanting to take in the spectacular views without rock climbing, a moderately inclined hiking trail takes visitors up to an observation deck.
Blackwater Falls
The renowned Blackwater Falls receives its name from the dark water that results from tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The amber-coloured falls descend five storeys then wind through an eight-mile gorge. Scenic Train Excursions
Travel through the hills of West Virginia by rail. Travellers can choose from day trips to excursions. Moundsville Prison Tours
Formerly the West Virginia Penitentiary, this gothic stone structure once housed some of the nation's most dangerous criminals. It has been the scene of riots, fires and numerous executions.
