20th September 2010 Print

Leading leisure airline, Monarch has announced new flights to the Italian region of Calabria, which will operate for Summer 2011.  Fares start from £219 return and are now available to book via monarch.co.uk.

Monarch’s charter flights will operate weekly on Saturdays* between Gatwick and Lemezia, providing direct flights to the beautiful region of Calabria in South West Italy.  Famed for its stunning white sand beaches which sit along the regions 780km of coastline facing onto the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas, the area is also home to a host of cultural delights and its Greek occupation is still visible through much of the architecture in the towns and villages. Predominently a mountainous region where tiny traditional villages can be found nestled into the mountainside, the region is also home to the Sila national park which is a stunning high level plain, incorporating lakes, rolling hills and woodland, making it an ideal location for walking, hiking and cycling.

Commenting on the launch of flights to Calabria, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines, Tim Jeans said, “We have seen increasing demand from a number of tour operators this year to offer flights to Calabria and we are delighted that we are now able to do so.  The service will operate from Gatwick for Summer 2011, but if demand continues to grow as expected, services will expand to operate from other bases in the future.”
