Peugeot’s 308 HDi even better in the real world

In the eighth annual ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon, a Peugeot 308 recorded the best overall improvement (over the official Combined fuel consumptionfigure) of all the contesting vehicles.

With a recorded figure of 84.41 mpg over the 400 mile MPG Marathon route, which included a real world mixture of motorway, A and B road driving, the Peugeot 308 HDi 90 Millesim exceeded the official government Combined figure by more than 21 mpg. This winning improvement beat all the results obtained from the other 33 vehicles entered into the event and clearly demonstrated that, by adopting a smooth and controlled driving style, the acknowledged fuel efficient 308 HDi can be driven to go even further.

The car was also not driven by a “professional” or an economy driving specialist driver but by Michelin employees who work at the company’s car tyre factory in Dundee. Steve Smith and co-driver Perry Johnstone were awarded the entry in recognition of their efforts over the past year and in-effect, won the drive in this year’s MPG Marathon. Exchanging their normal roles of industrial engineers and with no special training, just a pre-briefing on good driving techniques before the event started, they managed an impressive average consumption 84.41 mpg over 400 miles.

This clearly demonstrates that in real world conditions, a gallon of diesel in a Peugeot 308 HDi 90 Millesim can propel the car much further than the official government figures by adopting an efficient driving style; and confirms that Peugeot’s HDi diesel technology is the optimum choice for a wide variety of driving conditions.
