Reg plate LFC 80Y sells for £2,600

A teenager from Bradford, and not a multi-billionaire from America, is the new proud owner of the perfect personalised registration for Liverpool Football Club!
On the day news broke of a possible takeover by the Boston Red Sox baseball team owners, businessman John Lamb bought LFC 80Y for a total of £2,606 as a surprise for his 19-year-old son, Daniel.
And rather than sitting on a supercar befitting a Premiership footballer, LFC 80Y will go onto Daniel’s Citroen Saxo worth just a couple of hundred pounds!
LFC 80Y is one of 1,500 personalised registrations being auctioned by the DVLA from Rudding Park, near Harrogate. The three-day event climaxes tomorrow, Thursday, October 7.
Mr Lamb, himself a life-long Liverpool FC supporter, said: “It’s a great plate. Having it will be a real bit of fun. Daniel is going to love it.”
He added: “Truth be known, I came to the auction hoping to buy the registration LAM 80 to reflect my name, but I was outbid on £11,200. On reflection, LFC 80Y is a great consolation.”
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager, said: “There’s been a lot of speculation as to who would actually buy LFC 80Y. We’ve joked that home-grown heroes Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher ought to have it. Daniel is a lucky lad.”
At the end of the second day, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ auction will have raised £2.5 million. All money raised goes to the Treasury.
