Manchester school kids put Persimmon in their good books

A seemingly ordinary day at school turned out to be anything but for Year 2 pupils from St James Primary School in Manchester when they were treated to a surprise visit to a nearby housing development.
In celebration of Children’s Book Week, staff from Persimmon Homes invited 30 pupils to the Westbury Gardens development in Openshaw, entertaining them with animated readings from a range of books, before donating a number of titles including Big Scary Monster, The Great Dog Bottom Swap, Lenny has Lunch and Mr Pusskins Best in Show, to the school library.
Kerry Mellor, literacy coordinator at St James Primary School, said: “The children love spending time in different environments as they often add an extra dimension to their learning and the visit to Westbury Gardens was no exception. They all had a fantastic time and left the development with a renewed interest in reading which is a great result all round.”
Ken Whitelaw, sales manager for Persimmon Homes, added: “We were extremely keen to get involved in Children’s Book Week and wanted to take a fun approach towards enhancing the literacy skills of our young guests. It’s lovely to know that our event has contributed towards pupils increasing their appetite for literacy and hope our donation of books continue to help them develop their reading skills.”
