Long-time Volvo operator Knowles Transport of March, Cambridgeshire has ordered 26 new Volvo FH-460s and the investment made in Volvo’s Dynafleet telematics system has already provided hundreds of extra miles for free.

Tony Knowles, Managing Director of Knowles Transport, explained: “We’ve been operating Volvos for well over 25 years and I’m always open to new ideas on cutting fuel costs. Working with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, they were able to demonstrate that Dynafleet was the key to further fuel savings for our fleet.”

All the new FH-460 6x2 GTXL trucks are fitted with Dynafleet and the rest of the Knowles fleet are being retro-fitted in turn, with 40 scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Tony said, “The secret to getting the best out of any truck is bringing together the manufacturer and the dealer, the operator, and last, but by no means least, the driver. In our case it was Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, our fleet managers and our drivers who have all pulled together and the benefits are there for all to see.” He added, “An improvement of 0.8mpg is typical and that’s an impressive percentage gain across the fleet.”

Volvo’s Dynafleet telematics works in concert with driver development to squeeze the last mile out of every tank of diesel. Tony Knowles said, “Our drivers have been great, they understand that we’re not teaching them how to drive, they are professionals with years of experience, but we are helping them to get the very best from these vehicles.”

All the new FH-460s are on two year Gold Repair & Maintenance contracts cared for at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia’s Ely workshops.
