New gadget to reduce heating bills

The answer to curbing the rise of our winter fuel bills could lie in a new product developed by Yorkshire based manufacturer, Pegler Yorkshire. The leading provider of plumbing and heating products has developed an innovative programmable radiator control (PRC) valve which will save households up to 30% off their heating bills.
“With recent reports about the rise in fuel bills along with heating being an area identified as one of the highest domestic carbon emitters it is apparent that there is a real need to address this issue,” commented Sindar Singh, product market manager for Pegler Yorkshire.
In response, the company has developed the terrier i-temp PRC, designed for consumers to install, without the need of a professional. The product, which fits to most individual radiators, allows the time and temperature in each room to be fine tuned with no change to the overall heating system. This energy saving advancement prevents heat wastage as the consumer can focus heat within individual rooms when required. It is quick and easy to install, which will save time and money and its performance payback could be realised within just eight months.
The PRC is an intelligent product that can actually be set to come on/off at different times depending on the resident’s requirements. For example, a typical family will heat their whole house although may only require the heating on in a morning within the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen, the heat emitting from the radiators in the lounge, dining room and play room for instance is then wasted. The terrier i-temp PRC will allow for each individual radiator to be set at a specific temperature and time, therefore using the previous example, the radiators in the lounge, dining room and play room can be programmed to be off, even though the heating is on – keeping in tune with the residents own routine.
One Doncaster resident, 33 year old Katherine France, who lives at home with her disabled mother, two year old daughter and husband Chris, has trialled the product for Pegler Yorkshire whilst in its embryonic stage. She said: “I was conscious of keeping mum warm but not overheating Hannah particularly in the evenings when she was in bed. We used thermostatic radiator valves and used to physically go around the house turning them up or down depending on our requirements. It was just not a practical solution in a house of this size.”
Katherine continued: “I managed to fit the product to the radiators myself and I have no plumbing experience what-so-ever. I have certainly noticed an initial saving although I think it will be more apparent this winter when we can compare our energy usage for the whole winter. I would say it will be at least a 30% saving if not more!”
Innovative products can sometimes be daunting for users however being “consumer” friendly has been key for the development of the Terrier i-temp that is why programming has been simplified in a walkthrough process, it also offers pre programmes for bedroom and sitting room or a customisation program. Either way the PRC can be installed or programmed within minutes. There are many additional features for example hidden temperature limit for future potential energy saving, window opening detection, set back and comfort settings and child lock features.
The terrier i-temp is the first of its kind to be recognised as an Energy Saving Trust recommended product.
