Currie European Transport have placed their biggest-ever order for heavy trucks in a deal with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland for 25 Volvo FH-500 tractor units.

The order is a direct result of a ‘Fuelwatch’ programme run by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre, North & Scotland on their existing fleet and brings the total Currie Volvo fleet to 35.

Currie CEO Tom Barrie said, “This business is driven by efficiency and service levels. It’s our philosophy and I expect it to be that of my suppliers too.” He added, “Our transport operation needs a long-term partner who can provide the full package of product and service at the right price. Volvo has delivered that.”

The 25 new FH-500 6x2 tractors are highly specified with the Globetrotter XL cab, I-Shift automated transmission and Volvo Dynafleet telematics.

They are working on Volvo’s Flexi Contract Hire programme set at a two-year term, with a break-out option at twelve months. The R&M includes tyres and annual mileages are expected to be around 160,000 kms.

Tom Barrie concluded, “The package we got from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland - and the flexibility they were prepared to provide on our contract hire arrangements - shows that they understand my business. We’ve got top quality, economical trucks with great back-up and our drivers love them. I’m happy.”
