Don’t get your fingers burnt this Bonfire Night
British traditions such as Bonfire Night can sometimes end in tragedy in the home according to research from Churchill home insurance. The research showed that November has the second highest number of fire claims, only beaten by December which has a high number due to faulty Christmas lights.
With the winter months drawing closer, Martin Scott, head of Churchill home insurance, comments: "Not only do we see a lot of fire damage in and around Bonfire Night, the severity of the claims seem to be getting worse. We would urge householders to take extra caution during the winter."
Scott concludes, "End of terrace houses seem most likely to have fire damage. Although there is nothing in their construction that would suggest they are more at risk, end of terrace households have made more fire related claims according to Churchill data. This was followed closely by a detached house and then a semi detached bungalow. Whichever type of home you live in, a fire can be devastating. Follow our tips and stay safe."
