Volvo FM demolishes the competition

Chelmsford-based MICOR Demolition have taken their fourth Volvo FM onto their fleet of specialised waste clearance and recycling vehicles.
The new FM13 has been specified with the 12-speed Volvo I-Shift automated gearbox, together with the enhanced software for construction and off-road applications so that the driver can get the very best from the system.
MICOR’s Managing Director, Mike Corridan said, “We need a robust vehicle with a transmission that is easy to control and allows the driver to move about on site with accuracy. I-Shift takes care of that for us.”
The spec includes a climate unit with automatic air conditioning, which is handy when working in dusty environments, summer or winter, a CD/MP3 player, Bluetooth phone capability and interior red lights for relaxed night driving.
The new truck will be working on contracts all over the UK including trackside infrastructure demolition for Network Rail. As Mike Corridan explained, “Volvo’s Driving+ package and the ‘Globetrotter’ cab have been added to the spec to keep our drivers comfortable as they will be away from home.”
Mike observed, “When it comes to urban regeneration, the age of the wrecking ball and chain has gone. These days, professional demolition can involve attendance on site by archaeologists, facade retention and carefully managed operations in busy city centres, as well as traditional total site clearance.”
The FM13 380hp 8x4 is fitted with a Multilift RO-RO body and auto sheeting and is on a service contract with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia.
Mike Corridan explained: “The trucks are serviced overnight by the Volvo Dealerpoint in Ipswich and our drivers are given a loan car. That means no ‘downtime’ so we can just get on with the job in hand.”
