Basingstoke’s Volvo’s skip higher

Basingstoke Skip Hire and Southern Waste Management (BSH) have recently added a pair of the latest Volvos onto their specialised waste management and recycling fleet.
The Volvo FE-320 6x2 chassis has a steering and lifting rear axle for improved access and manoeuvrability and has been fitted with rear-end loader (REL) bodywork by Geesink Norba. An FL-240 4x2 skip loader chassis with Hyva gear also joined the BSH fleet in September.
A traditional family-run business of over 28 years standing, the 36-strong fleet now has 22 Volvos from the lighter 4x2 skip loaders up to a 6x4 Volvo FH tractor trailer combination. General Manager, Henry Dent said, “These two latest Volvos have only been on the road for six weeks but they are already delivering better fuel returns than previous trucks.” He added, “They are a pleasure to drive and it makes the job that much easier.”
Their mixed fleet includes a dozen tractor units, all Volvos, five Volvo ro/ro chassis as well as nine skip loaders, six rear-end loaders and a 26 tonne grab loader plus a variety of tippers and mini skip trucks.
Henry Dent concluded, “When it comes to fleet replacement, we tend to look at Volvos first these days. They deliver the product and service we need.”
