SSE price rise kicks in as cold snap bites

30th November 2010 Print

Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch.com, says: "This is the second price rise to strike and for many consumers it will add to the chill of this winter. From the 1st December the average SSE customer will be paying over £1,200 a year for their energy - this will be a strain for many and potentially unaffordable for some.

"Ofgem has announced a market review but, while this is going on, it is important that consumers don't just sit back and wait. Temperatures are plummeting even as energy prices are on their way up. There is now £419 between the cheapest energy plan and most expensive in the market - this is the equivalent of saving a third off your yearly household energy bill so I would urge consumers to start making the market work for themselves today by shopping around for a better deal."
