Wanderlust in Germany

Two wonderful self-guided walking holidays in Germany offered by World Walks, both to be featured on BBC4.

On 1st December, the first in the series of 'German Wanderlust' walks, the Rheinsteig, was broadcast on BBC4. This route runs along the right bank of the river Rhine between Bonn, Koblenz and Wiesbaden leading to forests, vineyards and spectacular views. It’s an exceptionally well sign-posted trail offering the opportunity to explore the landscape and culture of Germany in all its comparatively undiscovered glory.

World Walks offers the whole trail as a self-guided holiday divided into three week-long sections, with a fourth possibility that acts as a Rheinsteig highlights.

The second is in the area of Eastern Germany known as 'Saxon Switzerland', near Dresden and bordering the Czech Republic, among the Elbe Mountains. This is an inspirational region with unique scenery featuring bizarre rock formations, which has been enchanting nature lovers and romantics for centuries, including Caspar David Friedrich and Ludwig Richter.
