As the half term break approaches, Post Office Car Insurance today releases a survey to sweeten the prospect of spending time on the road with the kids.

More than 1,500 drivers were asked about their favourite sweet on long car journeys – with 90 per cent agreeing that they liked to be stocked up for the ride.

Extra Strong Mints topped the list, followed by Polo’s in second place and Mint Imperials and Werther’s Originals in joint third.

Least popular were Fisherman’s Friends, Skittles and Maltesers.

Women preferred Polo’s as their favourite car sweet, followed by Haribo’s and Werther’s Originals. Men picked Extra Strong Mints followed by Wine Gums and Polo’s. Haribo’s were also the top choice of the under 35s.

UK’s top ten car sweets:

1. Extra Strong Mints
2. Polo Mints
3. Wine Gums
4. Werther’s Originals
5. Mint Imperials
6. Haribo’s
7. Fruit Pastilles

Phil Ashkuri, Head of Post Office Car Insurance, said: “Munching on sweets in the car – whether you’re moving or not – is a national pastime.

“Make sure you’ve got the right car cover, too. We’re giving £50 cashback to anyone who makes Post Office Car Insurance their top choice. That’s enough to buy everyone in the family their favourite sweets this half term.”

Phil added that drivers should ask passengers to open their sweets for them so they can keep their eyes on the road.
