There’s no stopping RWE npower
Despite the freezing temperatures and heavy snow spreading across the country, RWE npower staff have been battling through the elements to help keep the lights on around the country.
RWE npower owns and operates 10 power stations across the UK, playing a vital role in keeping households and businesses warm, particularly when bad weather conditions create higher demand for energy. In response to the current heavy snow affecting large parts of the country, plans have been put in place to keep the power stations generating around the clock. RWE npower employees have braved the elements to make sure they get to work, some even sleeping at the stations overnight to avoid the hazardous driving conditions and keep the stations operating.
For npower’s retail business, such severe weather also creates an increase in calls from customers. Like many call centres, staff at npower’s Prepayment Centre in County Durham struggled to get to work through the heavy snow, but colleagues have pulled together, volunteering to give lifts and work overtime to make sure enough staff are on hand to answer calls, offering advice and helping customers affected by the weather.
Volker Beckers, Group CEO of RWE npower, said: “We have a real responsibility to help provide power to the nation and to meet our customers’ needs, particularly when the weather presents such challenges and disruption across the country. I am particularly proud to see such determination across RWE npower to keep our service levels high, keep our power stations running, and to see employees going the extra mile to ensure we do this.
"Weather like this also shows the need for a balance of fuel supplies for generating electricity across the UK. We have coal, gas and oil-fired stations all available to respond to peaks in demand and provide the National Grid with the energy it needs to keep our businesses running and our houses warm.”
