OVO Energy increases prices for New Energy Fixed tariff

6th December 2010 Print

Commenting on OVO Energy increasing prices for the New Energy Fixed tariff, Scott Byrom, energy manager at moneysupermarket.com said: "It was only a matter of time before the next provider jumped on the band wagon and increased its prices - a bitter pill to swallow for Brits reeling from the Big Freeze. Effective today, OVO Energy has increased the price of its New Energy Fixed tariff by six per cent for new customers - with an annual average increase of £62, to £1055 a year, this hike sees OVO Energy falling from grace from the top spot for fixed tariffs.

"We urged people to ‘fix' their energy bills back in the summer to ride out price rises, but if you missed out then it's still not too late - even though temperatures have already dropped and thermostats across the country are being turned up. You'll pay slightly more than you would have if you'd locked in then, but Scottish & Southern's Atlantic Fixed Price 3 tariff (at £1,019 a year for the average household) is now the best option for those who want to protect themselves again further price increases. Fixing now will ensure any future price increases will pass you by, and most importantly won't hit your wallet as hard during these cold, and more costly, winter months. For those who don't want to be locked into a fixed deal, the Online Saver V7 product from EDF Energy has average annual bills of £867 and is the cheapest deal on the market when you take into account the £100 introductory bonus. Recent research found that households can save £405 a year each by swapping away from their incumbent tariff to the best online dual fuel deal available at the moment."
