Car owners go Christmas crackers

6th December 2010 Print

You’ve bought gifts for the wife, the kids, the in-laws, even Rover the dog, but have you remembered to pick up a little something for... Rover the car? With only 18 shopping days left until Christmas, research by Manheim Auctions has revealed that an astonishing 1 in 10 of motorists buy their car a Christmas present every year.

Top car gifts include fluffy dice, a new air freshener or a set of mats, with most drivers opting to give their car a good clean or valet service as a Christmas treat. With all the recent bad weather perhaps some lucky cars will be hoping for a set of winter tyres or at the very least a top up of anti-freeze.

“Some drivers are just mad about their cars and use Christmas as the time to spend a little bit of money on their motor,” explained Craig Mailey, Marketing Director, Manheim Auctions. “It might seem a little odd but in all seriousness, if it means more people are taking care of their cars, ensuring they’re well looked after, it can’t be a bad thing.”
