Zeitgeist Explained
Zeitgeist means "spirit of the times". And because people use Google to search for what's new and interesting, their queries, when seen in volume, tend to be a good reflection of what's on people's minds. Amazingly enough as many as 25% of the search queries we get an any given day are new - meaning we have not seen them before.

The Google Zeitgeist is calculated by looking at the aggregation of the most popular and fast-rising search queries being typed into the Google.co.uk search box. Google Zeitgeist tools can never be used to identify individual users because we rely on anonymized, aggregated counts of how often certain search queries occur over time. These tools are available year-round for you to play with, explore, and learn from: google.com/zeitgeist
