The UK’s most successful housebuilder has acquired a site of land for redevelopment in Shirehampton, Bristol, in what is being described as clear evidence of Persimmon’s confidence in the local property market.

The 0.24ha site (0.61 acres), on Park Road in Shirehampton, is to be built on the site of the former Shirehampton Swimming Baths which closed in 2005. The new development will ultimately feature 24, two bedroom apartments and it is anticipated the scheme will have a sales revenue of £3m.

The site has the benefit of full planning approval however, Persimmon has been working closely with Bristol City Council to deliver plans for the scheme, along with discussing its contribution towards a new recreation space which forms part of the Section 106 agreement.

James Wilson, Persimmon’s regional land manager, said: “This is one of a number of sites that we are near to concluding negotiations on and demonstrates our confidence that the property market in Bristol is on the up.

“Our research has shown that there is a great demand for starter homes in this particular area of Bristol so we are naturally excited with the prospect of being able to help the region’s first time buyers take that all important-first step onto the property ladder.

“We are committed to developing brownfield land, creating local construction jobs and breathing life into previously underused and derelict areas and this recent acquisition is further evidence of our continued commitment in delivering sustainable developments in the West Country.”
