Taurus Waste declares Volvo I-Shift a winner

Byfleet-based Taurus Waste Recycling Group has added another FM 6x4 tractor unit to their Volvo fleet - and this time they’ve included Volvo’s automated I-Shift transmission.

With a fleet of 44 trucks, including a dozen Volvo’s already in his yard, Managing Director of Taurus, Stephen Mills, has taken his time in ordering an automated truck gearbox. He said, “In my view, they have only recently come of age and delivered their early promises. Our drivers are professionals and they know their game. We have evaluated them in the past, but only this I-Shift really does the job.”

After several successful acquisitions in recent years, Taurus now has five operating centres in the south east, including sites at Byfleet, Hersham, Aldershot, Fareham and Farnborough and they are set for further growth

Of their supplying dealer, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London, Stephen Mills said, “I have a good relationship with Volvo which goes back further than I care to remember. We take Volvo tippers too and it’s a good solid product with back-up to match.”

The FM-460 double drive was specified with underfloor protection and Alcoa alloy wheels. The Taurus drivers have taken to the new gearbox and they like the look of the truck too.

Stephen was concerned about the I-Shift’s ability to work on landfill operations, but the new truck has taken on the tough work without complaint. He added, “It’s taken years for Volvo to convert me to an auto, but it’s working well and the fuel returns are up on the 440hp manuals we run on the same work. It’s a definite improvement.”
