United Utilities set to expand Volvo Fleet in 2011

North West water-provider United Utilities are set to add to their 69-strong fleet of Volvos in 2011, with the addition of 11 new vehicles supplied by their local Volvo Truck dealer, Thomas Hardie Commercials.
Following on from the recent purchase of two Volvo FHs – an 8x4 and 6x4 which boasted sleeper cabs complete with ‘Drive’ Trim, D13C 420hp Euro 5 engines and I-Shift automated gearboxes with ‘fuel and economy’ software – United Utilities have earmarked a set of similar vehicles for the new year.
Commenting on the forthcoming vehicles, which are currently being built, Martin Shaw, Vactor Services Manager for United Utilities, explained, “As part of our rolling vehicle replacement plan, we are looking forward to taking delivery of 11 new vehicles in 2011. These vehicles will add to our already-strong fleet and assist United Utilities with their sewage, sludge and water movements across the North West.”
Volvo has worked with United Utilities since winning a pan-European tender for the business in 2006. Since then the relationship has blossomed, with United Utilities recently extending the agreement.
As well as delivering on cost and performance, Volvo also provide United Utilities with additional services such as driver enhancement courses and Driver CPC training.
Martin continued, “Driver training is very important to our business. It benefits both younger and older drivers, helping them to improve their driving skills and keeping them up-to-date with today’s modern vehicles.”
Commenting on the dealer, Martin said, “We have always had a very good relationship with Thomas Hardie Commercials. It has been great to work with them over the last 12 to 18 months.”
