Braving the winter to keep us warm this Christmas

Tom Scott will be one of thousands of people up and down the country braving the wintery conditions to work this Christmas.

The 28-year-old engineer for npower hometeam, which installs and repairs boilers, has been working flat out over the last three weeks to keep the country’s boilers working and in the last five days alone has been responding to up to ten calls a day.

He’ll be working all day on Christmas Day, delaying his family plans for Christmas dinner to Boxing Day.

Having worked in the industry for the past 18 months, Tom thinks that this is the busiest winter yet.

Tom comments: “This year the harsh winter has set in much earlier than expected catching many homeowners unawares.

“Of course I’d rather be tucking into some turkey and pulling crackers with my family on Christmas Day, but people rely on our service so it’s important to have people on the road. There’s nothing worse than having problems with your boiler or central heating system over the Christmas period and I get a huge amount of satisfaction helping other families stay warm and happy over the Christmas break.”

npower hometeam recorded an 80% increase in boiler breakdowns in December and is expecting a continuous level of calls over Christmas as families use extra hot water and switch the heating to constant, putting added pressure on their boilers.
