Interiors - Up the style stakes in 2011

No sooner have the decorations been relegated to the attic for another year, our thoughts turn to sprucing up our homes!
Whether you fancy livening up your living room, or giving your bedroom a boudoir make over, leading Yorkshire interior designer Jeanette Holmes, shares her top tips and trends for 2011.
“All the best dressed houses will continue to be indulgent and extravagant in their style with strong injections of vibrant colour,” commented Jeanette. “Gone are the days of minimalism – today it is all about making your house a home and that means texture, colour and well chosen accessories.”
Jeanette, who has worked on properties throughout the UK and also Miller Homes developments in Yorkshire, believes that homeowners have become more conscious of stamping their own style on their properties rather than following the trends.
“To create an individual look homeowners should mix high street products with personal or unique pieces,” advised Jeanette. “You can make a room look bigger by hiding your clutter and sticking to a ‘less is more’ rule. Also, every well dressed home really needs some ‘wall fashion’, which is perfect for contemporary and traditional schemes.”
Many visitors to Miller Homes developments throughout the region fall in love with the decor and colour schemes in the show homes, several of which Jeanette is responsible for creating. Colours that Jeanette will be using next year are vibrant pink and citrine yellow which are contrasted by shades of rich green, warm aubergine and sophisticated charcoal.
“My top tips for recreating a similar look in your brand new Miller home is to make your bedrooms luxurious and indulgent and display towels in your bathroom along with lovely bath products,” said Jeanette. “Really go to town on your lighting as that can make a wealth of difference, and do keep your kitchen clutter to a minimum - favouring herbs, oils and crockery to display. Above all, remember that it doesn’t have to cost the earth to create your own show home look – all you need is a little imagination!”
Miller Homes currently has thirteen developments located throughout the region.
