Peugeot’s MPG champions help slim down motoring costs

For many, the New Year is all about losing some of those pounds gained around the middle over Christmas but, for motorists facing a twin increase in duty and VAT on fuel, Peugeot has some great ways to avoid losing those precious “Pounds” in the pocket as we go back to work and school.

As ever, Peugeot has come up with a simple yet effective way to help reduce fuel consumption with a handy indicator in the driver’s instrument panel showing when to change up a gear for maximum fuel efficiency.  Coupled with Peugeot’s latest fuel efficient engines, the gear change indicator can make a surprising reduction in fuel costs.

Add to this a range of fuel saving technologies and Peugeot has a portfolio of MPG champions that can reduce time at the pumps and increase cash in the pocket.

The Peugeot 207 99g Économique can cover 85 miles on each gallon of diesel thanks to Peugeot’s renowned HDi 90 engine with its specially developed engine management software.  With CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km it is also zero rated for VED.

The challenge to manage costs is arguably most acute for families but the Peugeot 308 HDi 112FAP EGC hatchback can easily pass 70 miles for each gallon thanks to its electronically controlled manual gearbox coupled to an advanced highly efficient diesel engine.  In addition, energy-saving tyres help stretch every drop of fuel as far as possible and help keep VED costs down to just £30 per annum.

For those needing more room, the same power-train can propel the Peugeot 3008 for 65 miles for each gallon of diesel and even the seven-seat Peugeot 5008 can cover over 60 miles per gallon of diesel.

The five-door Peugeot 107 city car needs no clever technology to carry four passengers in comfort and exceed 70 miles per gallon.  With CO2 emissions of just 103g/km, it costs just £20 in VED each year.

The ultimate way to avoid any increases in petrol and diesel prices is, however, to drive the all-electric Peugeot i0n.

The i0n is available from the Spring on rolling four-year 40,000 mile “all-inclusive” mobility contracts covering vehicle lease, servicing and maintenance and a full warranty up to eight years or 80,000 miles. The first four-year contract costs £415 plus VAT per month and subsequent contracts will cost less.

With typical running costs estimated at £1.72 per full charge, the energy bill of the i0n is just a fraction of a fill up at the fuel pump and can be even cheaper if charged during off-peak hours.

In 2011 Peugeot’s consumption and emissions-busting capabilities will move forward even further. In the Spring, Peugeot will start to introduce diesel engines with a micro-hybrid Stop & Start System on a wide range of models.  Stop & Start can bring significant savings in traffic by switching the engine off when stationary and seamlessly restarting it when the driver presses the accelerator pedal.

In the Autumn of 2011, Peugeot will then introduce the world’s first full diesel hybrid car; the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4. This car’s unique HYbrid4 system combines a diesel engine with an electric motor mounted in the rear suspension to offer an optimum balance of emissions-free electric power and efficient, mile-munching diesel as well as providing powerful all-wheel drive when needed.

Finally, with further increases in both tax and interest rates predicted to continue to drive up the cost of vehicle ownership, Peugeot has introduced an innovative way to fix the major motoring costs for 3 years. The unique Just Add Fuel personal finance package enables customers to wrap up all the major motoring costs - vehicle cost, insurance, warranty and servicing, plus roadside assistance - into a fixed monthly payment. All that is needed is to Just Add Fuel.
