9th January 2011 Print

Peugeot UK can look back with pride at 2010, the 200th anniversary of the lion Brand, which saw the introduction of a new logo, new signature; ‘Motion & Emotion’ and a new design manifesto for future vehicles. All have been well received but it has been the performance of the latest cars; the 3008 Crossover, 5008 Compact MPV and RCZ Sports Coupé in their first year that has really underpinned Peugeot’s revival.

Between them, these three award-winning models accounted for 20,000 sales, driving an increase in Peugeot’s overall sales of 6.6 per cent and helping boost market share to 5.38 per cent in 2010.

Buyers continued to switch to diesel powered cars in 2010 and Peugeot demonstrated its renowned prowess for refined and economic diesels with an increase in sales of almost 30%, well ahead of the overall trend up 12.5 per cent.

Peugeot’s reputation for excellent long distance comfort and economy also helped the Brand make a huge leap forward in the fleet market, with sales up by 19 per cent. Peugeot’s ability to deliver stylish and appealing cars in key retail sectors also demonstrated a growth in sales of its popular 107 model, with sales up 5 per cent.

Practicality is an equally strong Peugeot attribute, as light commercial vehicle sales continued to grow with market share up to 7.2 per cent with a 23 per cent growth in sales.

As well as producing a range of vehicles that are increasingly meeting the changing needs of customers, Peugeot has continued to innovate in the way people own and use cars, with the uniqueJust Add Fuel® personal finance package introducing many more customers to a new way of enjoying the benefits of a new car.

Commenting on the Marque’s 200th anniversary year, Jon Goodman, Managing Director of Peugeot UK said: “Measured against an overall market that grew by just 1.8 per cent, our sales performance in 2010 shows that Peugeot is indeed a ‘brand on the move’.“

2010 was the year of Peugeot’s renaissance and 2011 will see the Brand continue to further develop its range with a number of environmentally responsible products that  includes the 100% electric Peugeot iOn, the introduction of the micro-hybrid diesel e-HDi Stop & Start System on a range of models from the Spring and the world’s first full diesel hybrid, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4, in the Autumn.

These will be ably supported by the progressive introduction of Euro V engines right across the range and 2012 will see Peugeot bring a plug-in diesel hybrid car to market, with CO2 emissions of approximately 50 g/km with fuel economy reaching an amazing 150 mpg.
