Luxurious Rainforest Spa launches at Sugar Beach, St Lucia

Those seeking the ultimate location for unwinding need look no further than the luxurious Sugar Beach in St Lucia, which has just opened a new five-star Rainforest Spa.
Sugar Beach, a 130-acre resort located on the South West coast of St Lucia, is one of very few developments around the world within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by world-renowned Caribbean architect Lane Pettigrew Associates, ‘The Residences’ at Sugar Beach is a collection of 42 exclusive properties with views of the Caribbean Sea and the magnificent Val des Pitons, priced from US$2.4 million to US$9 million.
Homeowners at Sugar Beach will have access to the new Rainforest Spa, which opened this month, offering a diverse spa menu which features the high tec Environ range and CACI anti ageing treatments as well as completely natural and locally made product range Green Papaya. Signature spa rituals include the unique ‘Sulphur Seduction’, where guests are taken to the nearby Sulphur mudbaths and hot waterfall, an invigorating massage with bamboo sticks and a Temascal.
The Rainforest Spa has been sympathetically constructed to resemble a collection of tree houses hidden discretely within the dense, tropical vegetation and accessed by a rainforest walkway. The Spa has been built entirely by hand in true St Lucian style by local Rastafarian craftsmen using traditional techniques which mirror native Arawak Indian huts of 900 years ago.
The buildings are 100% wood with thatched roofs made from natural, locally grown, grass; and the stone used for adjoining walls and paths is sourced from the site and chipped by hand.
The spa includes:
- Seven tree house gazebos
- A wet room for treatments
- An earthen steam room powered by volcanic spring water (also known as a Temascal which is an Amerindian steam room)
- A beauty room with a hairdressing salon in adjacent Sugar Mill with skin/facial treatment room
- Open-air spa relaxation gazebo suspended over running steam at the base of the Petit Piton
Lisa Basire, marketing director at Sugar Beach comments: “We are very pleased with the reception homeowners have given the Rainforest Spa. While they’ve always found Sugar Beach a relaxing environment, the Rainforest Spa add a new level of luxury and appeal to the resort.”
